Critic uses DFLers' names for Web sites
Klobuchar, Wetterling, Hatch affected
Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar, considering a run for the U.S. Senate, says an Internet blogger has hijacked her name to confuse voters.
Klobuchar's official Web site, www.amyklobuchar.com, was announced Friday. But the DFLer worried Saturday that some people typing in www.amy klobucharforussenate.com instead were finding themselves automatically redirected to a site critical of Minnesota Democrats.
Variations of the names of other potential Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Minnesota candidates, including Attorney General Mike Hatch for governor and child safety advocate Patty Wetterling for U.S. Senate, also lead to the Minnesota Democrats Exposed site at http://www.minnesotademocratsexposed.blogspot.com
"I think it's unfortunate," Klobuchar said. "Eighteen months (before the election) seems a little early for dirty tricks."
The prosecutor expressed her concern after reading a Saturday Pioneer Press article about her campaign Web site used the phrase "Amy Klobuchar for U.S. Senate" in quotation marks. She said felt some readers would end up at the blogger's Web site instead of hers.
The person behind the Minnesota Democrats Exposed has taken steps to remain anonymous and declined an e-mail request for comment Saturday, referring instead to an earlier posting on the Web log:
"My modest marketing plan was to ensure that citizens seeking information on Amy Klobachar, Patty Wetterling, or Mike Hatch receive the opportunity to hear the other side of the story at Minnesota Democrats Exposed. I purchased these domain names with personal money and I have no intention of ever selling them to anyone for financial or political profit."
Minnesota Republican Party chairman Corey Miltimore said his party has no affiliation with the site. Though it has occurred in years past, Miltimore said he isn't aware of Republican candidates being similarly stricken.
In a twist, a supporter of Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty has bought www.pawlentyfor president.com and www. pawlentyforpresident.net.
Meanwhile, the text at www.klobuchar.org says the Web site isn't affiliated with Klobuchar's campaign, but that its owner plans to donate the domain to the campaign as soon as possible. Source: Pioneer Press, March 20, 2005

I think this whole whining and gnashing of teeth by the Democrats and Strib about the website names you had the forsight to purchase is hysterically funny. Good grief, they should just shut up about it and make a joke or stop with the histrionics. Nobody cares.
Good call Toni
What a bunch of whiners these DFLer are!!!
The more they complain about you, the more people will read and become educated by your blog.
Keep up the good work!!!
Good move! Love it! Thank God for free speech!
